11Feb2014 - His Powerful Word

How you doin?  So I return to work today.  It should be interesting.  My foot and ankle still swell up to twice the size it should be.  I may need to go back part time.  I guess today will tell the story.  I feel a bit of the fourth day affect today.  Spiritual let down or come down.  After a weekend like we just had, regular life is tough to transition back to.  We went to hear John Kirby last night and he was great.  Stacey and I are going to the South Jersey Revival Alliance meeting today.  Regular life isn't that far off from what we did this past weekend.  I guess I'm just tired and still sick.  This illness is taking a long time to pass.  Hebrews 1 today.
Verses 1-2, "In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe." (NIV)  God speaks to me by His Son.  SO GOOD!!!!!!! Romans 10:17, "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."  I often ask, "how do I receive the faith of Jesus?".  The answer is hearing Him.  Hearing Him through His word.  Hearing the good news through the Bible.
Verses 3-4, "The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs." (NIV)
[d]"And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and [e]upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they." (NASB)  I couldn't decide which translation to copy, so I did both of my parallel translations.  I like both at different parts.  Jesus is the exact representation of God's being or nature.  Here's where translations get me.  "Upholds all things by the word of His power" or "sustaining all things by his powerful word".  These two translations sound different to me.  Is it a word about His power or His powerful word?  Maybe I'm reaching for it here.  Either way, I love these verses.  The rest of the chapter goes on quoting Old Testament Scripture, mostly Psalms, supporting the statement that Jesus is higher then the angels.  I myself didn't need much convincing on that one.  However, the last verse in the chapter is interesting.  Verse 14, "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"  That's something to remember.  Angels are to minister to me.  Psalm 103:20,
"Bless the Lord, you His angels,
Mighty in strength, who perform His word,
Obeying the voice of His word!"

I could use some ministering angels.  I'll be praying for my eyes and ears to be made aware of them today.  Receive the ministry from God's mighty angels today.
