Paul Email - 10Oct2013- Acts 12 (Chains Fell Off)

How you doin? I should have let Stacey keep praying for me on Tues. My allergies are really getting the better of me. My throat still doesn't hurt, but my head is fully in the fish bowl of deep congestion. I'm also warding off the unwanted spirit of offense. I'm not sure why I'm so susceptible to the Devils schemes, but it's not very fun going through it. Acts 12 today.
"Peter's Miraculous Escape from Prison" is the title of the first 19 verses. I think I over look the value of this story. Peter is guarded by 16 guards in prison. Plus he's chained. In verse 7 an angel appears in Peter's cell and "He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. "Quick, get up!" he said, and the chains fell off Peter's wrists.". 2 things stand out in this verse. Peter was in captivity and was woken up by the angel. In other Scripture, Jesus relates sleep to temptation and captivity. The second thing is "the chains fell off Peter's wrist". Awakening leads to freedom. Jesus came to this earth to reconcile us with the Father so we can be free from sin. I love being free from the things I've been freed from. I still battle with things like offense for some reason. I'm certainly not going to sacrifice God's glory on the alter of human understanding. I know God loves me, sustains me, and will free me completely. That's just what He does.
Verse 5 tells us that "the church was earnestly praying" for Peter. That's why this email goes out to a lot of you. I need you to be praying me, Stacey, & the kids. We seem to be willing to answer God's call and trust that He gives us grace to do what He asks of us. That looks good on paper, but here in my human condition, it's hard sometimes. Stay awake today.
