Delivery # 2 from the Purple Dragon Co-op. It seems to have grown! Very happy with this group. We are still looking for more people to join with us so we can get a delivery point in CMCH so please let me know if you are interested in joining.
Someone asked me the pros of the Co-op versus the Door to Door. As far as I can tell here they are:
1. Delivery Point: Door to door organics delivers right to your door (PLUS) while the Co-op you have to pick up in CMCH and my buddy has to drive an hour north to pick it all up.
2. Picking/Substitutions: Door to door organics lets you make up to 5 substitutions on your order. The co-op gives you what you get... no picking.
3. Ordering other stuff: Door to door lets you order also things other than just produce (although the prices are very high compared to the grocery store). The co-op is all produce only.
4. Price/Value: Door to door organics is much more expensive than the Co-op. Look at the picture above that I got for 50$ from the Co-op and look at this picture below that I got from door to door (the produce part was 25$):
5. Work: Door to door you pretty much check your email the friday before your delivery and you make your substitutions and order your extra stuff. The co-op, if we can get the 15 people you have to spend about an hour every 3 months sorting the produce (you take turns).
6. Interaction with other people trying to eat organic: Door to door the delivery man said "I hope you like it" and was nice. The co-op we text each other and share recipes and get excited about our boxes arriving. I can see us having a little sort of community/friendship with each other.
The verdict: I like both really. I like to have the door to door organic to supplement the other weeks that I don't get the co-op. They both have their pros and cons. Money seems to win out for me and ultimately there is no beating the co-op for THAT.
