How you doin? Mark 14 is long and familiar. This chapter is sad on the
natural level and glorious on the Spiritual level. We're still praying
for Mitch. I reached out to him yesterday to offer any help with the
services. He sent me a 3 page text of thanks and appreciation. I think
the word that Stacey received yesterday was on point. Praise God for
talking to us. Mark 14 is way to long to get into all of it, but one of
the highlighted stories today was of Mary's extravagant worship.
3 While he was in Bethany,
reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came
with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She
broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.
6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. 9 Truly
I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what
she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (Mark 14:3-9)
I don't always read the notes at the
bottom of my Bible, but today I did. They pointed out that in Matthew
and Mark it says, "Some of those present". In John 12:4-6, it says that
it was Judas rebuking Mary for embezzlement and greed.
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[a]” 6 He
did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a
thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was
put into it. (John 12:4-6)
Verses 6-8, really stood out the most. Jesus defends Mary and
praises her giving ALL that she had to Him. She poured out the most
valuable thing she had. Jesus responded to this whole heart-ed
extravagant worship with protection, recognition, praise, and favor.
This act of worship really makes me feel Holy jealousy. I pray for the
willingness to pour out my most valuable possession. For me that's my
life, which encompasses everything I have and love. COME
ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you think of it, it's all God's anyway.
Worship Jesus today... with your most valuable.
