12Jan2014 - Put on Your New Self

How you doin?  I feel numb this morning.  God gave me a word about fasting yesterday.  I was trying to eliminate food completely as of this past Thurs.  By yesterday around 11am, I was in serious pain (stomach and head).  As I was praying I heard God say in a jovial voice (almost sarcastic voice), "I'm not asking you to fast to be in pain".  So I'm back to the Daniel fast.  I'm learning.  The key is to hear, listen, and pay attention to God.  Colossians 3 today.
Verses 1-4, "Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." (NASB)  In my NIV Bible, the title of verses 1-17 is "Rules for Holy Living".  In the NASB the title for verses 1-17 is "Put On The New Self".  I've really been leaning toward the NASB translation lately.  I love these first 4 verses.  Especially verse 4.  I'm comforted by the knowledge that God has given me His full portion.  There isn't any more of God to come dwell in me.  There is an infinite amount of God to still be revealed to me.  COME ON!!!!!!!  These 4 verses are good instruction on how to receive this revelation.
Verses 9-11,  "Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being[i]renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction betweenGreek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all." The foot note "i" is for the word renewed.  It means "literally renovated".  That's a good word.  I just can't get enough of the transition from old to new.  Jesus' first miracle was a prophetic act of turning water into wine.  Water baptism into the baptism in the Spirit.  Old to new.  SO GOOD!!!!!!!
Verses 14-16, "Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God."  Verses 12-13, basically list the fruit of the Spirit.  I love how verse 14 qualifies love as the most important fruit of all.  God has really revealed to me how He loves me this past week.  He has revealed to me that He "delights in me" and that He is pleased with dwelling in me.  WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!  I can feel the Holy Ghost rending my heart so that God's love can pure in to the point of overflowing.  COME ON!!!!!!!  Be renovated by putting on your new self today.
